OLYMPIC STADIUM

Barcelona's Olympic Stadium, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, was used for the 1992 Olympic Games. The centrepiece of Barrelona's Olympic Ring, it is located on the hill of Montjuic. The stadium was designed by local architect Pere Domenèch i Roura and inaugurated during the 1929 International Exposition. After being used as a football stadium and a motor racing paddock for intervening years, it was chosen as the flagship stadium for the 1992 Olympics and renovated by Italian architect Vittorio Gregotti. It was also RCD Espanyol's football stadium between 1997 and 2007. The stadium now holds 57000 and is still used for sporting and cultural events.
